Post 1 - Charlie Chaplin - The Tramp (Part 1)

This film clip shows Charlie Chaplin as his famous character 'The Tramp'. Introduced to the viewing public in 1914, this was truly a defining moment in cinema, slapstick comedy made a name for itself through this famous character. The most absurd situations were created which would end in disaster or the character being unnecessarily hurt. Chaplin's 'The Tramp' inspired many other characters to be born and slapstick films to be produced. Famous characters such as Laurel & Hardy (1937), who looked very much like the character ‘The Tramp’ were created and all of the Carry On films produced in 1958 incorporated the slapstick humour.
